Imagine this: 

Sacramento is ready to lead the way in clean energy, and hydroelectric power is at the heart of this movement. But there’s one problem—many young people don’t know how hydroelectric power works or why it’s important for their future. That’s where YOU come in.

Your job is to build an hydroelectric turbine and a marketing slogan that will grab the attention of Sacramento’s youth and inspire them to learn more about hydroelectric power. 

The winning turbine AND slogan will be featured on the HumanBulb newsletter, where it will help inspire and educate Sacramento’s youth about hydroelectric power!

What Your Slogan Should Do:

  • Educate: Help people understand how hydroelectric power works and its benefits.

  • Inspire: Make young people excited about clean energy and their role in a sustainable future.

  • Stand Out: Be catchy, memorable, and easy to share.


Team Tasks:

  1. Select your team leader(s). Team leaders are responsible for guiding the group and ensuring everyone stays on track. Everyone on your team should have a role, whether it’s building, organizing tasks, or cheering on teammates. EVERYONE should contribute in some way!

  2. Build a Hydroelectric Turbine!

  3. Research the advantages and disadvantages of using this type of power in Sacramento. Why should it matter to the youth? 

  4. Organize your flashcards in the correct order, showing the steps involved in producing hydroelectricity.

  5. Create the Best Slogan for Sacrament Youth!

    Your slogan should send a clear message about why hydroelectric power matters, especially for youth in Sacramento.

  6. Prepare a Pitch: Write a short speech to explain. 30 second or less

  • Write a short explanation of why your slogan is the best.

  • Share it with the class and explain.

Present Your Turbine and Slogan: Share your turbine design, slogan, and pitch with the class. Be confident and explain why your turbine and slogan are the best choice for raising awareness about hydroelectric power!

"Hi everyone! Our slogan is ‘What makes the world go around? Water.’ It’s the best because it’s simple, easy to remember, and makes people think. It shows how water isn’t just important for life—it’s also a clean energy source. Our design helps explain how hydroelectric power works, and the slogan is perfect for getting people in Sacramento excited about clean energy. It’s catchy and will stick with people, especially youth. Thank you!"
